CHICAGO, Ill. Defiance began its third tournament in as many weekends on Friday, falling in a pair of three-set matches to Trinity Christian and Mount Union at the University of Chicago Gargoyle Classic.
The Jackets fell 30-27, 30-14, 30-27 to Trinity Christian in the first match of the evening for DC. Sara Porter led the way, recording 13 kills and 11 digs to go with one service ace in the loss. Kelsey Ferguson continued her strong play with 17 assists and Julie Brunsman collected four total blocks to lead DC at the nets.
Danyel Lipps paced Defiance in the night cap, turning in seven kills, 11 digs and a trio of aces, but it was not enough as the Jackets fell 30-22, 30-22, 30-18 against Mount Union. Ferguson tossed up 15 more assists, while Heather Bradshaw collected 14 digs.
Defiance (2-8) will continue its play at the Gargoyle Classic on Saturday when it plays Augsburg and the University of Chicago at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm.
