CHICAGO, Ill. – Defiance rounded out the University of Chicago Gargoyle Classic on Saturday with a pair of losses to Augsburg and Chicago. Sara Porter picked up her eighth double-double in 10 matches and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Augsburg topped the Jackets 30-23, 30-26, 30-9 in the 11:00 am match. Danyel Lipps led Defiance with nine kills and Heather Bradshaw turned in 14 digs.

DC rebounded with a stronger showing in the second match of the afternoon, winning the opening set 30-28. The Jackets then fell 22-30 and 25-30 before forcing a final set with a 30-24 victory in the fourth set. The University of Chicago pulled out the five-set win with a 15-9 victory in the finale.

The Jackets put up some big defensive stats in the loss, totaling 13.5 blocks and having Lipps, Porter, Bradshaw and Kelsey Ferguson record at least 15 digs each.

Lipps, Porter and Aldridge combined for 50 kills and Ferguson ran the offense with 27 assists.

Defiance (2-8) will open its HCAC slate on Tuesday when it hosts Bluffton in a 7:00 pm match.
