Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to Heidelberg

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance hosted Heidelberg on Tuesday evening in a non-conference affair and fell by a 30-9, 30-16, 30-27 score to the Fighting Princes inside Weaner Community Center.

The Lady Jackets could not slow a high powered Heidelberg attack in the opening set, as HC put away 21 kills in 34 chances and had just one miscue for a hitting percentage of .588.

The Defiance defense stepped up in the second and third games, lowering Heidelberg’s hitting percentage to .286 and .109 but could not extend the match.

Lauren Aldridge led DC’s offense with eight kills and three blocks, while Sara Porter turned in six kills and 13 digs. Danyel Lipps recorded 11 digs and four blocks and Heather Bradshaw joined Porter and Lipps in double figures with 10 digs.

Heidelberg had 11 players register at least one kill on the night, and was led by Emily Hurlburt’s nine kills in 11 chances. Morgan Magers spread the wealth to the tune of 38 assists.

Defiance (2-6) will compete in the University of Chicago Tournament this weekend, before returning home to host Bluffton on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
