DEFIANCE, Ohio – Danyel Lipps hammered down seven kills in the opening game and the Yellow Jackets never looked back, topping Indiana Tech’s junior varsity squad 30-21, 30-24, 30-26 for the Parent’s Day victory.

Lipps collected seven of DC’s 13 kills in the opening set and fueled a 14-4 Yellow Jacket spurt midway through the game to secure the victory. With the score knotted at 14-14, Lipps started the rally with consecutive kills and DC raced out to the 28-18 lead en route to the opening-game win.

Defiance stayed hot in the second game, keeping the pressure on the Warriors with nine combined kills from Lipps and Lauren Aldridge and 13 assists from Kelsey Ferguson. DC led by as many as 10 points in the second game and never trailed in the 30-24 victory.

Lipps paced DC with 14 kills in a 3-0 victory over Indiana Tech.

The third set was the most competitive of the evening as Indiana Tech built a 14-10 lead before Defiance scored six of the next eight points to draw even at 16-16. Three-straight Warrior miscues put DC up 20-17 and the Jackets held on for the 30-26 win.

The 14 kills from Lipps led all players, while 33 assists from Ferguson and 14 digs from Ashton Judis were also match highs. Sara Porter regained the hot hand against the Warriors, notching nine kills on 20 swings for a healthy hitting percentage of .305 and Nicole Fresorger registered a pair of blocks.

Defiance (8-21) will have one day off before traveling to Hanover, Ind. to compete in the 2007 HCAC Tournament on Saturday. The Jackets will face the No. 3 seeded Manchester Spartans (15-14) at 2:00 pm in opening round action. With a win, DC would advance to face second-seeded Mount St. Joseph (19-16) at 7:00 pm. The championship match is scheduled for Sunday at 1:00 pm.
