GREENWOOD, Ind. Danyel Lipps was named to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Second Team on Wednesday, after helping a young Yellow Jacket squad to a sixth-place finish and a berth in the conference tournament.
Lipps improved on a standout freshman season by setting career highs with 108 games played, 387 kills, 47 service aces and 403 digs during her sophomore campaign. Lipps led Defiance in kills and aces, ended second in digs and third with 38 total blocks. The West Alexandria, Ohio, native also ranked favorably among all HCAC players, finishing the season among the top six in kills and aces per game.
Lipps was one of the top all-around threats in the league throughout the course of the season, and posted the numbers to back it up. The versatile hitter slammed 15 or more kills in 11 matches and had at least 15 digs in 14 matches for the Jackets en route to 16 double-double performances.
Among the season highlights for Lipps were earning a spot on the HCAC Preseason Watch List and being named to the DC Invitational All-Tournament Team.
