GREENWOOD, Ind. Sara Porter ran her string of consecutive double-doubles to five, raising her total on the season to 12 and has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Porter’s efforts helped the Yellow Jackets move to 3-0 in HCAC play and maintain their share of first place in the league.
Porter began the week by leading all players with 18 kills in a three-set loss to No. 13 Ohio Northern on Tuesday night. The standout freshman accounted for half of DC’s kills in the match and posted a .341 attack percentage. Porter also reached double figures in digs with 10 and put down a pair of service aces.
The Toledo, Ohio, native stayed hot in Defiance’s second match of the week, recording 15 kills, 18 digs, four blocks and three aces to help the Jackets score a 3-1 win against Franklin on Thursday. Porter got DC off to a fast start, tallying five kills in the opening set and ended with a .262 hitting percentage.
