Porter Nets HCAC Player-of-the-Week Honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Sara Porter ran her string of consecutive double-doubles to five, raising her total on the season to 12 and has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Porter’s efforts helped the Yellow Jackets move to 3-0 in HCAC play and maintain their share of first place in the league.

Porter began the week by leading all players with 18 kills in a three-set loss to No. 13 Ohio Northern on Tuesday night. The standout freshman accounted for half of DC’s kills in the match and posted a .341 attack percentage. Porter also reached double figures in digs with 10 and put down a pair of service aces.

The Toledo, Ohio, native stayed hot in Defiance’s second match of the week, recording 15 kills, 18 digs, four blocks and three aces to help the Jackets score a 3-1 win against Franklin on Thursday. Porter got DC off to a fast start, tallying five kills in the opening set and ended with a .262 hitting percentage.

Porter averaged 4.7 kills and 4.0 digs per game on the week.
For the week, Porter posted 33 kills in 86 swings while committing only seven hitting errors for a solid attack percentage of .302. Porter averaged 4.71 kills and 4.00 digs per game while totaling 33 kills, 28 digs, five aces and four blocks.

Porter currently ranks ninth among all HCAC players with 3.31 kills per game and has been one of DC’s top all-around contributors all season, netting 202 kills, 206 digs, 21 blocks and 16 aces.

Porter and the Jackets will look to stay perched atop the league standings this week as they host Anderson and Hanover in their final two home conference contests of the season.
