SPRING ARBOR, Mich. Defiance College took the court for the first time in a week and was handed straight-set losses by Spring Arbor and Siena Heights on Saturday in non-conference action.
The Yellow Jackets began the tri-match with a 30-27, 30-19, 30-22 loss against the host Spring Arbor squad. The Defiance defense piled up the digs, but the offense could not get on track. Heather Bradshaw led the way with 20 digs, while Danyel Lipps, Sara Porter, Ashton Judis and Nicole Williams all joined her in double figures. Lipps and Lauren Aldridge paced the offense with 11 kills each.
In the second match of the afternoon, Defiance managed 34 points in the opening set before falling 36-34, 30-22, 30-26 to Siena Heights. Porter turned in a double-double with 11 kills and 15 digs, while Lipps and Aldridge combined for 32 kills. Bradshaw notched 21 digs and Kelsey Ferguson tossed up 32 assists.
Defiance (5-15, 3-2 HCAC) will get back into HCAC play on Tuesday night with a key contest in North Manchester. The Jackets will take on the league-leading Spartans (12-8, 4-0 HCAC) at 7:00 pm.
