Three Jackets named All-HCAC
DEFIANCE, Ohio-- The Defiance College Volleyball Team has had three players named to the All-HCAC First Team. Jill Evans(Wauseon, Ohio Archbold), Julie Steineman (New Bremen, Ohio New Bremen), and Danielle Rego (Toledo, Ohio Bowsher) each garnered the award for their play during the 2005 season.
As the primary setter for Defiance, Evans led the Yellow Jackets in assists with 905. She also placed second on the team in blocks (79), fourth in digs (244), and fifth in service aces (22). This is the third consecutive year that she has received All-HCAC honors. Last season, Evans was a member of the All-HCAC Second Team, while in 2003, she was named to the All-HCAC First Team.
Steineman led Defiance in a number of categories during the regular season, including kills (398), hitting percentage (.281), and blocks (123). This is the first time in Steineman’s collegiate career that she has been named to the All-HCAC First Team.
In Rego’s first year as a Yellow Jacket, she made a significant impact on the team, posting 360 kills, 150 digs, and 67 blocks. Rego had three matches in which she put up 20 or more kills, including a season-high 29 against Aquinas College on October 29.
Defiance finished the season with an overall record of 21-12 and a conference record of 8-2.
