Defiance College Volleyball Earns National Team Academic Award

--Defiance, Ohio- Defiance College Volleyball has been honored as a recipient of the 2003-2004 AVCA Team Academic Award.
The award, given by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, is awarded to teams that maintain at least a 3.30 GPA during the academic year. The Lady Jackets, who set a school record with 26 wins last season, were one of 304 teams the NCAA, NAIA, and high school levels to earn the national accolades.
Jacket coach David Kwan, now entering his second season at DC, explained that the ’03 squad set the standard for what the DC program is striving for.
“Last year’s Lady Jackets set the bar high in both the classroom and on the court. I will be expecting this level of academic achievement and athletic achievement from future DC squads,” said the 2003 HCAC Coach of the Year.
DC was one of 48 Division III programs honored, while only two other Heartland Conference schools earned the award, Mt. St. Joseph and Bluffton.
The growth and level of play in collegiate volleyball is on the rise. The 2003-04 award recipient list was nearly 100 teams greater than the previous year.
Defiance College Volleyball opens the ’04 season on September 3rd and 4th at the Mt. Union Tournament. The Lady Jackets open their home schedule on September 10th and 11th when they host the DC Invitational.
