Lady Jacket Volleyball Has Rough Weekend

--Grand Rapids, Michigan—The Defiance College volleyball team had a tough time at the Calvin College invitational this weekend.

The Jackets lost to Aquinas College 1-3, Waynesburg 0-3, and Wheaton 0-3.

Defiance was defeated 24-30, 24-30, 30-25, and 20-30 by Aquinas on Friday night. In the loss, Mandy Owens had 13 kills, and 24 digs. Diane Bruns had 22 assists, while Jill Evans chipped in with 17. Evans and teammate Julie Steineman each had four blocks.

Defiance next took on Waynesburg, and loss 25-30, 24-30, and 25-30. In that game, Jill Evans led the Jackets with 14 kills, and 18 assists. Mandy Owens had 16 digs, and seven blocks.

The Lady Yellow Jackets then played Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon, and was beaten 20-30, 24-30, 28-30. For Defiance, Julie Steineman had seven kills, and five blocks to lead the way, while Emily Satanski had 10 assists. Diane Bruns had 18 digs in the loss.

The losses drop the Lady Jacket’s record to 20-13. They next play in the HCAC tournament next weekend at Manchester College.
