DC Volleyball finishes Calvin Tournament with 3-1 record

--GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.The Defiance College volleyball team went 3-1 over a two-day span in the Calvin Tournament, ending with a five-game win against Aquinas by the scores 30-32, 30-26, 26-30, 31-29, 15-13.
Two Jacket players set new season-highs in kills and assists, as Danielle Rego finished the match with 29 kills and Jill Evans with 58 assists. The previous season-highs were 28 killsalso by Regothis past Tuesday against Manchester, and 51 assists, which Evans set against Hanover on October 8th.
The Jackets split their first two on Friday evening, winning in straight sets against North Park by the scores 33-31, 30-17, 30-21, but losing in four to Hope, 24-30, 30-20, 31-29, 30-18. Defiance then began this morning with a win against fellow HCAC conference foe Anderson 30-27, 30-16, 30-27.
In the first match, Danielle Rego had a team-high 14 kills, while Julie Steineman added 10. Jill Evans led in assists with 37. Diane Bruns and Steineman added 13 and 10 digs, respectively. Evans also added five blocks. In the second match against Hope, Rego again led the Jackets with 14 kills, while Steineman contributed 12. Evans dished out 35 assists and block six balls. Amber Hahn dug out a season-high 12 balls. This morning's match saw Steineman amass 19 kills, with Rego adding 17. Evans handed out 46 assists, which is the most she has had this season in a three-game match. She also added five blocks. Bruns and Corrie Farley dug out 14 and 10 balls, respectively.
Evans was one of eight players named to the All-Tournament Team after totaling 176 assists in the four matches. This is the second tournament in a row in which Evans has been named to the All-Tournament Team. Earlier this month, she was one of five players honored for her play in the Mount St. Joseph Tournament on September 30th and October 1st.
The Yellow Jackets' record now stands at 18-11. They play their last home match of the season against HCAC rival Bluffton on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. before entering the HCAC Tournament.
