DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College Volleyball team took third place in the DC Invitational after splitting a pair of matches against Shawnee State University and Concordia University. DC dropped the first match 32-30, 30-26, 30-25 to Shawnee State and picked up the win in the second match against Concordia 30-16, 30-20, 30-21.

DC played a tightly contested match against Shawnee, one in which neither team held a lead larger than six points in any game. In the first game, DC held a 26-20 lead at one point before Shawnee mounted a 12-4 run to take the game. In the second and third games, the Jackets found themselves trailing by small deficits but could not jumpstart the rally that would push them over the top.

In the match, Danyel Lipps led the Jackets with 14 kills, while Danielle Rego added 10. Ashton Judis handed our 30 assists, while Diane Bruns had 17 digs.

In the second match against Concordia, DC came out much stronger, jumping out to early leads and maintaining them through each game. The first game saw DC take a quick 9-4 lead that quickly ballooned to 20-9. The second game saw a 10-point DC run led by Brittany Cooley, whose five service aces over the period erased a 9-11 deficit to make it 19-11 en route to the win. Defiance maintained control throughout the third game, trailing only once when Concordia scored the first point of the match.

Lipps and Rego led the way in kills again with 16 and 12, respectively. Cooley dished out 28 assists, with Bruns and Corrie Farley each digging out 12 balls.

Rego was one of six players named to the All-Tournament team for her performance over the weekend.

Defiance College (3-6) is on the road, taking on Ohio Northern University at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
