DC Volleyball in the community
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College Volleyball team has been living up to the college's motto of "Be The Difference" by volunteering its time with the kindergarten students of Anthony Wayne Elementary School.
The Yellow Jacket team has been spending the past month reaching out to the youngsters by going to the school three times a week and spending up to two hours helping the children in the development of their reading ability. The time that the Yellow Jackets have spent volunteering at Anthony Wayne is part of an ongoing service project by DC student-athletes that demonstrates the "culture of engagement" emphasized by Defiance College where students are encouraged to make a difference within the community.
Defiance College has received national recognition for its educational experience of engagement from the Templeton Foundation Honor Roll for Character-Building Colleges and the Princeton Review’s Colleges With a Conscience and is recognized by U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges 2006 as one of the top comprehensive colleges in the Midwest. Defiance College is also a Bonner Leader School, one of a select group of colleges and universities in the nation to sponsor a prestigious program in which students take leadership roles in community service projects.
