Jackets Split Tri-Match

--Defiance, Ohio—The Defiance College women’s volleyball team lost a tough match to nationally ranked Mt. St. Joseph, but came back to defeat Humber College, Saturday at home.

In the first match, the Lady Jackets hung tough with Mount, but were defeated 3-1. They lost the first game 30-27, and lost a heartbreaking second game 31-29, before winning the third game 32-30. The Jackets then finally fell to the Lions 30-24 to close out the match.

In the contest, Nikki Retcher had 17 kills, while Julie Steineman added 11. Jill Evans led with 24 assists, and Mandy Owens dug out 25 balls. Steineman also had three solo blocks and six block assists.

Defiance did come back to beat Humber College 3-0 in the second contest. The Yellow Jackets won 30-21, 30-21, 30-21.

In the victory, Steineman led with eight kills, while Retcher and Owens had seven each. Jill Evans again led in assists with 15, with Corrie Farley recording 12 digs. Owens also had one solo block, and three block assists.
