Yellow Jacket Volleyball Reaches Semis of the Mount Union Tournament

ALLIANCE, Ohio—The DC Yellow Jackets fall one match shy of the Mt. Union Tournament finals, losing the semifinal match against Mt. Union 21-30, 30-23, 30-21, 30-27 on Saturday afternoon. Julie Steineman led the Jackets in kills and blocks again with 12 and 17, respectively. Brittany Cooley had a match-high 26 assists while Jill Evans dished out 24. Corrie Farley contributed 16 digs and Steineman 15. Danielle Rego also had 15 blocks of her own.

The Yellow Jackets won their first match of the season with a 3-2 victory over Waynesburg College in the first round of the Mt. Union Tournament. Defiance won by the scores 28-30, 30-25, 30-21, 33-35, 15-12. Julie Steineman led the Jackets in kills and blocks with 15 and 19, respectively. Jill Evans dished out 33 assists and Corrie Farley had 28 digs.

In the second match of the tournament, the Yellow Jackets moved to 2-0 with a 27-30, 30-14, 30-24 win over Case Western Reserve University on Friday evening. Julie Steineman again led in kills with 20 and blocks with 16, while Jill Evans dished out 28 assists. Corrie Farley led the way with 15 digs and junior Danielle Rego added 15.

Defiance College advanced to the semis of the tournament and improved its record to 3-0 and with a 30-21, 30-19, 30-13 win over Kenyon College on Saturday morning. Julie Steineman was the team leader in kills and blocks for the third straight match with 11 and 12, respectively, while Jill Evans dished out 28 assists. Brittany Cooley handed out 24 assists and Corrie Farley added seven digs.

Defiance plays its home opener against Heidelberg College on Tuesday, September 6 at Mt. Union at 7:00 p.m.
