Yellow Jackets split volleyball tri-match

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College Volleyball team was able to go .500 in its tri-match against Siena Heights University and Spring Arbor University. The Jackets took the first match against Siena Heights 30-26, 30-28, 30-15, then fell to Spring Arbor 30-22, 30-23, 30-24.

The Jackets played well on both sides of the ball, with the team cranking out 45 kills, the fourth highest this total this season in a three-game match. Defensively, DC saved 57 balls while holding Siena Heights to a .132 hitting percentage. Danyel Lipps led the Yellow Jacket offensive attack with 18 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Ashton Judis handed out 34 assists, while Corrie Farley and Diane Bruns dug out 18 and 17 balls, respectively.

In the second match, the Jackets were less effective offensively, as the team only hit .016 in the three games. Conversely, Spring Arbor was able to convert its offensive opportunities with 47 kills on .240 hitting. Danyel Lipps led DC in kills again with eight, with Ashton Judis contributing 24 assists. Diane Bruns had 16 digs, while Corrie Farley had 11 of her own.

Defiance (6-11) hit the road Tuesday to take on Otterbein College at 6:30 p.m.
