DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College Volleyball squad won its second consecutive HCAC match in as many days, this time beating Transylvania University by the score 30-20, 30-18, 30-25.

DC got off to a strong start in the first game, going on a 6-2 run to start the match. DC would maintain an edge throughout most of the game, at one point going up 17-12. The Pioneers would make a run of their own, five of the next six points to come within one. Yet DC would pull away and eventually take a 28-19 lead, highlighted by two consecutive Brittany Cooley aces for the 27th and 28th points. The Jackets would take the game on a Transy attack error.

The second game began with another ace by Cooley, which set the stage for a 10-4 run to get things started for Defiance. The Jackets were in control from that point on, as Transy would not come closer than seven, when the score was 14-7. Kyla Holmes entered the game with DC up 20-10 and promptly served up two aces of her own. DC would eventually win the set on a Pioneer service error.

The final game began with a hard kill by Dani Rego right in the chest of one of the Pioneer player, setting the tone for a hard-nosed set. Although the Jackets took an early 10-5 lead, Transy came back and pulled with two, making it 12-10. Defiance would stretch the lead to 19-13, but again Transy makes a run to make it 24-22. However, a final 6-3 push by the Jackets would seal the victory.

Cooley handed out 23 assists during the match. Rego and Lauren Aldridge each led DC with nine kills. Diane Bruns dug out 11 balls in the match.

Defiance (8-16, 2-3 HCAC) will play its final home match of the season Monday evening when the Jackets host Manchester College. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
