Lady Jackets outdone by Bulldogs

DEFIANCE, Ohio—The Defiance College Lady Jackets, stymied by cold shooting, fell to the visiting Bulldogs of Adrian College on Wednesday night, 56-63.

Meghann Savard once again led the way with a double-double of 19 points and 10 boards. Megan Myers also had a strong offensive night with 12 points while tallied seven rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Sarah Bird chipped in eight points for a DC team that closed a halftime gap of 11 points to three the first three minutes of the second half.

The Bulldogs built their intermission lead by outscoring Defiance in the paint 20-6 in the first stanza. Jenny Carlson, who led Adrian with 12 points, scored seven first-half points against the Jackets’ front court.

The Lady Jacket 10-2 run out of halftime break was spurred by jumpers by Kara Jones and Kayla Mengerink, and triples by Bird and Myers. The Bulldogs pushed the lead back up to 15 when Carlson hit a lay-up off a Meredith Blazejewski assist at the midway point of the final period.

A 17-5 DC run in the final five minutes of play was capped off by two free throws by Melissa Headley, but Adrian hit their next four charity shots to send the Lady Jackets to 2-8 on the year (0-0 HCAC).

The Lady Jackets return to action when they host Tri-State University at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
