Franklin overwhelms Lady Jackets

DEFIANCE, Ohio—The Defiance College Lady Jackets were overwhelmed by HCAC-favorite Franklin College on Saturday afternoon, 80-51, at the Karl H. Weaner Center.

Defiance, led by Sarah Bird’s 17 points, were done in by Grizzly runs of 16-0 in the first half and 25-6 in the second half. FC (11-2, 2-0 HCAC), led by Becky Ballard’s 25 points and nine boards, converted 42 points in the paint and 20 second-chance points to pull away from DC.

Sarah Grime followed Bird in scoring with 12 points and added a team-high seven rebounds, while Meghann Savard added eight points and four boards. The Grizzly defense forced the Jackets into 18 turnovers and held the DC offense to 38% shooting from the floor. Lindsey Roberson, who added 16 points, helped FC to 51% shooting for the game.

The Lady Jackets are now 3-10 on the year and 0-2 in the Heartland Conference. Defiance will next travel to Manchester on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off against the Spartans.
