Mengerink’s 20 points not enough, Lady Jackets fall at Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind.— The Defiance College Lady Jackets fell to the Franklin College Grizzlies Saturday afternoon, 70-62, at the Spurlock Center in Franklin, Indiana.

The Lady Jackets had three players in double digits. Kayla Mengerink led the DC with 20 while Meghann Savard added 15 and Sarah Grime, 14. FC’s Lindsey Roberson led all scorers with 25 points.

Defiance led 14-8 after a lay-up by Meghann Savard half way through the first-The Grizzlies took the lead when Roberson hit a three-pointer at the 4:30 mark making the score 28-26 en route to a 34-28 halftime lead.

The Grizzlies pulled away in the second half and led by 11 when Roberson hit yet another three-pointer upping the score to 50-39. Grime’s lay-up at the 2:00 mark brought the Jackets within three but the Grizzlies made 8-of-10 free throws to close the game and secure the win.

The Lady Jackets fall to 2-6 in the HCAC and 5-14 on the season. They will face Manchester at home on Wednesday, February 1st at 7:30 p.m.
