Bird and White Earn All-HCAC Honors

DEFIANCE, Ohio –Sarah Bird and Mandy White were each named to the All-HCAC First Team, following the 2007-08 season that saw the Lady Jackets go 10-14 overall and boast the HCAC’s highest scoring offense with 73.5 points per game. DC led the conference in five statistical categories, while also ranking in the top four in five other categories.

Bird earned All-HCAC recognition for the second time in her career. The senior finished her career at DC with a spectacular season, recording career-highs in points per game (13.5) and three-pointers (47). The five-foot, seven-inch guard had a strong finish to her collegiate career, reaching double-figures in scoring in each of her last eight games as she averaged 18.3 points per game during that span. She also led the HCAC in three-point field goals per game with 1.9 and finished second in free throw percentage, connecting on 87.1 percent of her attempts from the charity stripe. Bird tallied 935 points during her career, while her 118 career three-pointers rank her fourth on DC’s all-time list.

White, last season’s HCAC Freshman of the Year, had another big year for the Lady Jackets. The sophomore forward dropped in 12.6 points to go along with her 5.9 rebounds per game. She played in 21 games this season, reaching double-figures in 16 of those games. After two seasons at DC, White is well on her way to the 1,000-point milestone after tallying 557 points in the past two seasons. The Ottawa, Ohio native led the team with 45 steals, ranking fourth in the conference in that category.
