GREENWOOD, Ind. - Defiance College’s Sarah Bird (Fayette, Ohio/Gorham-Fayette) averaged 23.5 points per game as the Jackets went 2-0 this week and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
The senior guard knocked down five three-pointers and pulled down four rebounds on her way to a career-high 29 points in Wednesday’s victory over Franklin College. She followed up that performance with 18 points in Defiance's 83-61 win over Rose-Hulman. She has reached double-figures in scoring in her last eight games, averaging 18.3 points per game during that span.
Bird wrapped up her collegiate career with 934 points, while also ending her time at DC with 118 three-pointers to finish fourth all-time in that category. This season was her most successful yet as Bird averaged 13.5 points per game, while finishing second in the HCAC in free throw percentage with her 87.1 percent shooting from the line.
