Gerding named HCAC Player of the Week

DEFIANCE, Ohio-- DC's Meta Gerding has been named Women's Basketball Player of the Week by the Heartland Conference.

Gerding (Ottoville, Ohio/Ottoville) guided the Yellow Jackets to a pair of conference wins last week. The senior guard posted 17 points and finished with 11 rebounds in Defiance’s 75-50 win over Manchester on Jan. 12. She knocked down five three-pointers in the victory. In the Yellow Jackets’ 70-65 overtime win against Mount St. Joseph on Jan. 15, Gerding had a game-high 23 points and finished with nine rebounds. She also had three assists and a steal against the Lions. For the season, Gerding is ranked in the top twelve in nine HCAC statistical categories.

She is averaging 14.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Defiance improved to 7-7 overall and to 3-1 in the HCAC with the wins.
