Bailey Records Double-Double in Loss to Hanover

Defiance at Hanover Box Score

HANOVER, Ind. – In a first half that was full of runs it was a 13-3 spurt over the last two minutes of the period that lifted Hanover College over Defiance 77-64, handing the Jackets their second loss of the season in the HCAC.

Defiance jumped out to an early lead as Sarah Bird’s trifecta gave the Jackets a 5-2 advantage, three minutes into the contest. Hanover responded with a 16-2 spurt over the next five minutes that put the Panthers out in front 18-7.

DC would rattle off the next ten points of the contest as Molly Bateman’s jumper pulled the Lady Jackets within one, 18-17. After a pair of Hanover buckets, Amber Bailey and Sarah Grime each connected on shots to push DC to a 23-22 lead with two minutes to go in the first stanza.

White has 16 points and five rebounds in loss.

Hanover took over from there as the Panthers used their big run right before the break to go into the locker room with a 10 point lead, 37-27.

Bailey knocked down a free throw right after the half to cut the lead to nine, 37-28, but DC would get no closer as the Panthers would run away with a 77-64 victory.

Defiance out-rebounded the Panthers 45-40, led by Bailey who pulled down a career-high 15 boards to go along with her 16 points and four blocks. Mandy White and Holly Stein were the other two Lady Jackets to reach double figures in scoring, dropping in 16 and 10 respectively.

Defiance (2-3, 1-2 HCAC) will be back in action on Friday, December 14, when it hosts Marygrove College in the nightcap of the PRO-REHAB/Hubbard Co. Tournament. The opening game of the tournament will feature a matchup of Milligan College and Marian College, with tip-off for that game slated for 6 p.m.
