Defiance vs. Hanover Box Score

HANOVER, Ind. - The Defiance College Women’s Basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak and keep its postseason hopes alive with a big road win Saturday afternoon against Hanover College by the score 71-60.

DC opened up the contest scoring the first two baskets of the game and maintained its lead throughout most of the first half. Its largest lead of the period was a 19-11 advantage with 11:33 to play.

Hanover made things interesting with a 12-2 run over the next five minutes to take a 23-21 lead.

The Jackets countered with an 18-13 run to close out the half and take a 39-36 lead going into the intermission.

As has been the case throughout the season, DC stepped up its game in the second half and defensively dominated the Panthers, holding them to 24 percent shooting in the period.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Jackets had one of their best outputs of the season, shooting 57 percent from the field in the second half, its second best effort of the year.

Hanover made a brief comeback in the beginning of the second half, bringing the gap to 41-40 at the 18:07 mark. This effort was soon stifled by DC as the team 14-6 Lady Jacket run brought their lead to ten with 10:27 left to play. At that point, the Panthers would never come closer than eight.

Katie McNamara led DC with 16 points and six rebounds, while tying a season-high with five steals. Mandy White added 12 points and six boards, while Kayla Mengerink had 10 points and six assists. Sarah Grime chipped in with 10 points and four rebounds off the bench.

Defiance (11-9, 4-7 HCAC) will head back on the road Wednesday to take on rival Bluffton University at 7:30 p.m.
