DC's Meghann Savard named Co-MVP of the HCAC, Jones earns All-HCAC Honorable Mention
GREENWOOD, Ind. - DC Lady Jacket Meghann Savard was named the 2006 Women's Basketball Co-MVP of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference along with Lindsey Roberson of Franklin College. DC's Kara Jones also earned All-HCAC Honorable Mention honors.
Savard, a senior forward, was among the conference leaders in several statistical categories. She was third in the conference in scoring (16.4 ppg), seventh in rebounding (6.6 rpg), fifth in field goal percentage (51.2%), sixth in free throw percentage (78%) and tenth in blocked shots (10). The former HCAC Freshman of the Year maintained even better numbers against non-conference competition. She averaged 17.7 points and 7.6 rebounds per game overall this season and was among national leaders in field goal percentage (54.7%). Savard is a three-time all-HCAC selection and was also named HCAC Player of the Week three times during the 2005-2006 season.
Jones, a senior guard, averaged 9.4 points in conference play and was tied for seventh in assists in the HCAC, averaging 3.3 per game. Known for her shooting from behind the arc, Jones was among the statistical leaders in three-point categories, including second in three-pointers made (31), sixth in three-point percentage (.373). Jones was also second in the conference in assist/turnover ratio and ninth in steals per game at 1.59 and 1.79, respectively.
Defiance completed the 2005-2006 season with a 6-20 record and 3-11 conference mark.
