Meghann Savard named HCAC Player of the Month
DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College’s Meghann Savard (St. Ignace, Mich./LaSalle) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference December Female Player of the Month. She is the first Defiance athlete to receive the HCAC Player of the Month award. The senior basketball player posted an outstanding month on the hardwood that saw her lead the conference in numerous categories.
Savard averaged 20.8 points and 9.6 rebounds per game during the month helping her team to a 3-5 mark over the period. From her post position, she shot a blistering 61.3 percent from the field. Included among her performances was a pair of 30-point outbursts in wins over Marygrove and Berea.
In Defiance’s 93-76 victory over Marygrove on Dec. 16, Savard scored 31 points and grabbed nine rebounds. She returned on Dec. 17 against Berea to score a game-high 33 points and pull down a season-high 23 rebounds.
She was selected as the MVP of the Hubbard/Pro-Rehab Classic, was named HCAC Player of the Week twice during the month, and was also named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week on Dec. 22.
During the month Savard led the Yellow Jackets in scoring in five of their eight games and was the top rebounder in six games.
Savard currently leads the HCAC in scoring (19.1 ppg), rebounding (9.0 rpg) and field goal percentage (.589). She is also ranked fifth in the conference in free throw percentage (.741).
The recipient of the honor is selected by the sports information directors of the conference’s eight institutions.
