Meghann Savard named HCAC Player of the Week

DEFIANCE, Ohio-- Defiance College’s Meghann Savard (St. Ignace, Mich./LaSalle) was named the Heartland Conference’s Player of the week after guiding the Yellow Jackets to a championship title at the Hubbard-Pro-Rehab Classic over the weekend.

The senior forward averaged 32 points and 16 rebounds in two wins and was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. In the Yellow Jackets’ 93-76 win over Marygrove on Dec. 16, Savard led her team with 31 points and nine rebounds. She was 8-of-11 from the field and 15-of-18 from the free throw line in the game and also had three assists and three steals. She returned in Saturday’s 101-96 overtime win over Berea to post a game-high 33 points and 23 rebounds. Savard was 12-of-18 from the field and 9-of-12 from the free throw line with two blocked shots, an assist and steal.

For the tournament, she was 20-of-29 from the field, 24-of-30 from the free throw line and had 32 rebounds, four assists, four steals, and two blocked shots.

Savard is averaging 20.1 points and 8.6 rebounds-per-game for the Yellow Jackets (2-7) this season.
