Lady Jackets drop two in Centre Tournament

DANVILLE, Ky.The Defiance College Lady Jackets lost their second game of the season as they were defeated by Marian College Saturday afternoon in Danville, Kentucky by the score 67-51.
Defiance never held a lead in the game as Marian College jumped out to an early 10-4 lead. DC could not pull the game closer than four in the first half as the Knights kept the pressure on the Jacket offense, holding them to only five first-half field goals. By the end of the half, Marian had jumped out to a 38-26 lead and never looked back en route to the win.
Ball control proved to be the Achilles' heel of the Jacket offense, as DC gave up 21 points off of 30 turnovers. DC could not get things going offensively from the field, shooting only 32% for the game. The Jackets fared better from the free throw line, however, going 24-of-33.
Meghann Savard led the Jackets in scoring with 17, while adding eight rebounds. She did most of her damage at the charity stripe, going 13-of-17 from the free throw line. Savard was also one of six players named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 16 points and nine rebounds in the two games of the tournament.
Kayla Mengerink also reached double-digits in scoring with 10 points and five rebounds. Kara Jones added six points on two three-pointers and three assists.
The Lady Jackets look to gain their first victory of the year as they host Heidelberg College Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m.
