Savard awarded Player of the Week honors

DEFIANCE, Ohio-- Defiance College’s Meghann Savard (St. Ignace, Mich./LaSalle) has been named Heartland Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Savard averaged 26 points and eight rebounds for the Yellow Jackets last week. The junior forward scored a game-high 18 points and had 11 rebounds in Defiance’s 57-55 loss at Anderson on Feb. 9. She was 6-of-10 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Savard netted 34 points in Defiance’s 84-66 win against Hanover on Feb. 12. She tied the HCAC single-game mark for free throws made and attempted by knocking down 18-of-21 in the game.

Savard, for the week, scored 52 points, had 16 rebounds. She was 24-of-28 from the free throw line and converted 14-of-20 field goal attempts. Savard is averaging 19.9 points and 5.5 rebounds a game this season while shooting 59 percent from the field.

Defiance is 12-10 overall and 8-4 in the HCAC and will host Bluffton University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. before wrapping up the regular season at Transylvania on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
