LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Defiance College Lady Jacket Basketball Team drop the first game of the new year to conference foe Transylvania University Wednesday evening by the score 66-61.

DC put the first points up on the board on a three-pointer by Megan Myers. Meghann Savard later added a jumper to give the Jackets a 5-1 lead two minutes into the game. Transy would tie the game at five at the 15 minute mark and later a 7-5 lead. This lead would widen to eight as the Pioneers went on a 20-14 run to make it 27-19 with four-and-a-half minutes left to play. However, scores by four different Yellow Jackets would shrink the gap to three by the end of the half.

In the second half, a Sarah Bird layup pulled DC within one at the 18-minute mark. Transy stretched the lead back to six two minutes later, and had its largest lead of the game of nine with eight minutes left to play. The Lady Jackets continued to remain in the game, as trailed by only one with four minutes left. With the score 54-53, this would be as close as the Jackets would come, as the Pioneers closed the game on a 12-8 run.

Four Jackets scored in double-digits, including Meghann Savard, who recorded her fifth double-double in a row with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Megan Myers led all scorers with 18 points. Sarah Bird dropped 12 and grabbed six rebounds.

Defiance, now 3-9 overall and 0-1 in the HCAC, return home to take on Franklin College Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
