Lady Jackets get second straight win, White named Classic MVP

Defiance vs. Westminster Box Score

N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Defiance College Women’s Basketball team continued its winning ways as the team gained its second win of the season against Westminster College in the Manchester Tip-Off Classic by the score 60-48.

DC took control of the game in the first half, jumping out to an early 14-4 lead and at one point led by as many as 15. The Lady Jackets led throughout the half until Westminster took a 27-26 advantage with 42 seconds left to play in the period. The Jackets would regain the lead on the next possession and enter the second half up by one.

The Titans came out with momentum in the second half, going up 33-29 four minutes into the period. At this point, the Lady Jackets turned it on a stormed out on a 17-3 run over the next seven minutes for a 10-point lead. DC held control of the game from here on, never letting its lead slip closer than five and going up by as much as 15.

Mandy White led all Defiance scorers with 16. Sarah Bird added 10 points and four rebounds. Kayla Mengerink had eight points and four assists.

White averaged 15.5 points and five rebounds during the two game stretch and was named Classic MVP.

The win moves Defiance to 2-0. This is DC's first 2-0 start since the 2004-05 season.

Defiance (2-0) continues its road trip Tuesday as the Lady Jackets head back to Indiana, this time to take on Tri-State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
