A Letter from Coach David Plant
To: Coaches and Potential Women Golf Student-Athletes
Defiance College, Defiance, Ohio, is pleased to announce that with the fall season of 2006 women's and men's golf will return after a two year hiatus. With the newly established rule that the conference winner in golf will automatically qualify for the national Division III playoff format Defiance College has decided to reopen its golf programs. This letter is to introduce you to myself, Coach David Plant, and the basics of the women's golf program at Defiance.
About Coach Plant: I am an alumus of Defiance College and was low scorer on the only golf team to win a conference championship for the college. I currently hold a 3-handicap at Auglaize Country Club and am committed to seeing that student-athletes live up to their name with success in athletics and excellence in academics. In addition to me, our team will make use of local golf professional Martha Mallot and former women's team member Maimee Hug (who holds the women's low round record) for instructional purposes. Currently, I am a part-time professor in the Humanities department teaching such varied courses as Global Civilization (a required course for all students) and World Religions along with other select courses in the Design for Leadership program. My wife, Dr. Marian Plant, is full-time faculty at the college and one of my sons, Jordan, is a graduating senior at DC in graphic arts and communication.
About the Golf Team: On page 2 and 3 are a summary of the essence of Defiance College Women's Golf under my leadership. It involves the C3 principles of Commitment to Academics, Commitment to Golf Excellence, and Commitment to Community Service, a hallmark of the Defiance College experience which recently got us mentioned in Newsweek magazine as a top college. I encourage you to read the enclosed summary of Defiance College Women's Golf in its entirety and go on the Defiance College website, www.defiance.edu., for more information about the college.
With the decision just made to enter into the golf program this coming fall it means an opportunity for women to be able to play and contribute immediately their first year at DC. In fact, the decision to pursue golf again at the college is so new that we don't even have info up on the web site yet which means that early contacts to this mailing will have a real advantage in getting a jump on participation in the fall 2006 program and getting my direct attention. Ideally, I am looking for 6 competitive players who will work hard this coming year to be ready for the Fall 2006 season when we play our first conference season under the new guidelines. If you think you would like to be part of such an experience then fill out the form on page four and return it immediately to me via snail mail or email so we can converse and arrange a visit to the campus.
Sincerely Yours,
Coach Dave Plant
