GREENWOOD, Ind. For their efforts during the 2006 Women’s Soccer season, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference has named DC’s Hannah Jones and Sarah Plas to the All-HCAC Second Team.
Sarah Plas, a sophomore from Van Wert, Ohio, moved from center back to defensive midfielder halfway through the season. The move helped pay off, as the Jackets were able to cut their goals allowed average by over a goal over the final six games.
“She keeps the team organized defensively,” said Head Coach Alden Lawrence. “She reads the game very well and doesn’t hesitate to step forward at midfield to win balls and intercept passes.”
Jones, a freshman from Fort Wayne, Indiana, was second on the team in goals scored and points with eight and 18, respectively. She had two two-goal games during the regular season, one against Rochester College on September 4 and the other against Franklin College on October 14.
“She has very fast, explosive speed,” Lawrence said. “I look forward to coaching her, because she has the potential to become a dangerous striker in all aspects of her game.”
Defiance finished the regular season with a record of 5-12-1 and 2-5-0 in the HCAC.
