GREENWOOD, Ind. The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its all-conference teams on Tuesday, November 6. DC’s Sarah Plas and Cherilyn Borkholder each earned Second-team All-HCAC recognition for their efforts this season.
Sarah Plas earned All-HCAC honors for the second consecutive season, after being named to the All-HCAC Second Team a year ago. A two-year captain, Plas anchored a defense that helped the Jackets outscore opponents 15-5 in their last seven victories.
“Sarah did a great job for us this season at sweeper,” said head coach Alden Lawrence. “She has great vision and uses her passing and dribbling skills to escape pressure.”
Borkholder led DC this season with six goals and 13 points. The freshman striker started her collegiate career with a bang, scoring twice in the Jackets’ opening day victory over Bethany College. The Shipshewana, Ind. native was instrumental in Defiance’s late season run providing needed scoring, knocking in four goals over a five-game span that saw DC go on a four-game winning streak.
“She had a great freshman season,” Lawrence said. “She has a striker’s mentality, and became more and more comfortable with her role as the season progressed.”
Defiance closed out the season winning seven of its last ten to finish 8-9 overall, its eight victories tying the school mark for most wins in a season.
