Jackets Win Third Straight, Defeat Alma 2-0

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Defiance College Lady Jackets won their third consecutive game, shutting out Alma College 2-0 on Wednesday, October 17. DC has now won five of its last seven games and has outscored its opponents 10-2 over its last three games.

Defiance started the game with a flurry, scoring two goals in the first ten minutes of the game. Freshman Melissa Alston scored what turned out to be the game-winner in the eighth minute, her third goal of the seaon. Just over a minute later Alston would come up big again, setting up a Cherilyn Borkholder goal to give DC a 2-0 advantage.

That was all the scoring keeper Andrea Galbraith would need. The freshman kept all of the Scots’ 31 shots from touching the net, while picking up her fourth shutout of the season. She reached double-digits in saves for the third time this year, finishing the game with 11.

The Jackets won despite being outshot 31-6 over the course of the game. Michelle Kavanagh and Borkholder each had two shots to lead DC. Borkholder, who leads the team with five goals on the season, has now scored in three of her last four contests.

Alston has eight points
on the season
Defiance (6-8) will return to action on Saturday, October 20, as it looks to keep its postseason hopes alive in its game against the Panthers of Hanover College. The match is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Defiance College Soccer Complex.
