DC Women’s Soccer wins thriller on last-minute goal
Nick Williams, Assistant SID

DEFIANCE, Ohio – A sliding toe kick with less than a minute to play off of the foot of Jessica Gamble found its way into the back of the net to give DC its first win in four games, as the Jackets defeated Alma College 3-2.

The game got off to a bad start for DC, as Rachel Comfort of Alma scored the first goal of the game off of a cross less than one minute into the game. The Jackets would answer back with a goal of their own, when Hannah Jones scored her fourth goal of the year when she broke away from the defense after an outlet pass by Deirdre Trujillo. Jessalyn Hardesty broke the tie in the 34th minute, when she was able to score her first goal of the season.

DC went into the second half with a 2-1 lead and continued to pressure the Scots’ defensively. However, the team was unable to keep Alma off of the scoreboard, as Kelly Walsh scored on a header off of a cross to knot the game at two. The game remained tied at two for the rest of the game, until the 89th minute, when Gamble was able to split two defenders for a sliding kick that sailed over the goalkeeper’s head and into the left corner of the net for the golden goal.

For Gamble, it was her first goal of the season, while Stacey Bosserman made six saves for the win.

Defiance (2-4-1) will host Olivet College Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
