Lady Jackets Overcome Weather and Bluffton in 2-1 Win

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance fought through extremely wet playing conditions and a tough Bluffton defense, rallying from a 1-0 deficit at the half with a pair of second half strikes to take a 2-1 victory over the Beavers on Wednesday afternoon.

Bluffton took the early lead in the 22nd minute when Jessica Good lofted a shot from the top of the box into the back of the net for a 1-0 BC lead.

That margin held up through the remainder of the opening half, but DC came out strong after the break and dominated play over the final 45 minutes. Hannah Jones drew Defiance even at 1-1 with a score in the 56th minute. The play developed quickly as Angela Gratz passed the ball to a streaking Jones who one timed the shot past the Bluffton keeper for the game-tying score.

Deirdre Trujillo provided the eventual game-winning tally just over 17 minutes later when she laced a free kick just inside the far post to give DC the 2-1 lead.

Jones and Trujillo paced the DC attack throughout, putting up nine of the Jackets’ 15 shots. Kaitlin Monberg and Lauren Ranalli each had a pair of shots.

Stacey Bosserman turned in a solid effort between the posts, allowing just the one goal while gathering four saves in the victory.

The win was the first of the season for DC in HCAC action and moved the Jackets to 4-8-1 overall on the year. Defiance will host Transylvania on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
