Four unanswered goals ends chance for a win for DC Women’s Soccer
Nick Williams, Assistant SID
DEFIANCE, Ohio The Defiance College Women’s Soccer team could not maintain its 2-0 lead against Capital University as the Yellow Jackets fall Thursday afternoon at home 4-2.
DC took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Dierdre Trujillo in the 12th minute off of a cross. The lead was padded a little more with another goal in the 16th minute, this time by Lauren Ranalli. Things appeared to be heading DC’s way until Abby Skoda pulled the Capital deficit to one with a goal of her own less than two minutes after Ranalli’s goal. Natasha Ballard would then knot the game at two in the 28th minute when she scored on a cross.
With the game tied, Rebecca Gardlik would put the Crusaders up 3-2 on a free kick that sailed just over the outstretched arms of keeper Stacey Bosserman. Capital would put the game out of reach in the 76th minute with a final goal by Molly Shiels.
Capital spent a major portion of the game on the offensive, as the Crusaders outshot DC 36-15. Stacey Bosserman made 10 saves for the Jackets in the game. Ranalli, along with Jessica Gamble and Michelle Kavanagh, each had an assist in the game.
Defiance (3-7-1, 0-1-0 HCAC) will host the College of Mount St. Joseph Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in its second HCAC contest of the season.
