Three goals prevent DC Women’s Soccer victory

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Three first half goals for Lake Erie College keep the Defiance College Women’s Soccer team from gaining its second straight win as the Yellow Jackets fall by the score 3-1.

Defiance got its only goal of the game in the 73rd minute in the second half by Kaitlin Monberg, which was assisted by Hannah Jones. At this point, Lake Erie already had a commanding lead headlined by Angela Bethel, who had a hat trick for the Storm with goals in the ninth, 13th, and 17th minutes of the game.

Lake Erie had a slight edge in shots during the game with a 12-to-10 advantage, although DC held the Storm without a shot on goal in the second half.

Lauren Ranalli had six saves for DC in the game, while Dierdre Trujillo, Hannah Jones, and Jessica Gamble each contributed two shots for the Yellow Jackets.

Defiance (5-10-1, 2-3-0 HCAC) will head to Indiana on Saturday to play the first game of a men’s-women’s doubleheader against Hanover College. The game is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
