Defiance Women's Soccer Drops Opener to Medaille, 2-0

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College Women’s Soccer team dropped its opener, a 2-0 decision, to Medaille College in the opening game of the Defiance Classic.

After finishing the opening twenty minutes in a scoreless draw, Medaille broke into the scoring column as Katie Bush punched a shot past DC goalkeeper Andrea Galbraith (Medina, Ohio/Medina) to give the Mavericks a 1-0 advantage. Defiance freshman Cherilyn Borkholder (Shipshewana, Ind./Westview) was able to break from the defense several times in the first half, but was unable to find the net.

Medaille added a security goal in the second half as Bush scored again this time on a pass by Danielle Radlich. The Yellow Jackets, behind senior Michelle Kavanagh (Williamston, Mich./Williamston) and junior Sarah Jones (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Luers), kept the ball on the on Medaille’s side for a good portion of the next twenty minutes. However, Maverick goalie Mattea Haessner came up with some big stops to keep DC from getting on the board.

The loss drops DC to 0-1 on the season, the Yellow Jackets will return to action on Sunday, September 2, 2007 when it hosts Bethany College at Defiance High School in the Defiance Classic.
