Lions end Jackets’ season

CINCINNATI, Ohio—The Defiance College women’s soccer team closed out their 2005 season in a 0-1 loss at Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday night in the first round of the Heartland Conference Tournament.

The Jackets showed improvement after falling 0-7 to the Lions in the regular season and were held close by sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Sutter who registered 11 saves in the contest. The lone Mount score came on a Beth Schuermann put back after a Sutter stop on a Jessey Spradlin shot in the 26th minute.

The Lions out shot DC 12-3 and had seven corner kicks to the Jackets’ one. Deidre Trujillo, Kaitlin Monberg and Rachel Moore all had shots on goal for Defiance.

The Jackets end the season at 7-10-1 overall and 4-3 in the HCAC.
