Nick Williams, Assistant SID
DEFIANCE, Ohio The Defiance College Women’s Soccer team was unable to withstand the offensive barrage of Mount St. Joseph as the Lions beat DC 10-0 Saturday afternoon.
The game got off to an ominous start when Katie Henlein scored the first goal 24 seconds into the game on a bender from outside of the penalty box. Things got worse for DC when the Lions scored goals two, three, and four in the 10th, 11th, and 14th minutes. By the end of the half, MSJ had a 6-0 lead and would add four more in the second half.
DC was held to only three shots on goal for the game which all came in the first half. Each shot came from Lauren Ranalli, Michelle Kavanagh, and Hannah Jones. Conversely, MSJ put 24 shots on goal, with Jessey Spradlin finishing the game with a hat trick.
Defiance (3-8-1, 0-2-0 HCAC) will continue conference play against Bluffton University Wednesday afternoon at home. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
