DC Women’s Soccer shuts out Olivet for second straight win
Nick Williams, Assistant SID
DEFIANCE, Ohio Two goals by Lauren Ranalli gave the Defiance College Women’s Soccer team all the momentum it would need for its second consecutive win, as the Yellow Jackets defeated Olivet College Wednesday evening by the score 3-0.
The first half of the game saw a hard fought match between both teams, as neither team was able to get on the scoreboard. The second half was a different story, as the Jackets came out the gates quickly with a goal by Ranalli 29 seconds into the half. The goal would eventually prove to be all that Defiance needed, but Ranalli wasn’t finished, as she put another ball in the net in the 65th minute when the keeper could not corral her shot. Hannah Jones would put the game on ice in the 88th minute when she scored her team-leading fifth goal on a breakaway.
The Jackets played a tough, physical game as DC was called for 12 fouls compared to 6 for the Scots, in addition to two injury timeouts for Olivet. In the end, Defiance was able to hold on for the win.
Stacey Bosserman made six saves in goal for her second shutout of the season, the first in a winning effort. Kaitlin Monberg contributed an assist on Ranalli’s first goal.
The Yellow Jackets (3-4-1, 0-1-0 HCAC) will travel to Berea on Saturday for an evening game against Baldwin-Wallace at 5:00 p.m.
