Defiance Predicted to Finish Seventh in HCAC Preseason Poll

GREENWOOD, Ind.— The Defiance College Women’s Soccer team was picked to finish seventh in the conference in the 2007 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Preseason Poll. Reigning HCAC champ Transylvania received 74 points, while Mount St. Joseph and Rose-Hulman rounded out the top three with 69 and 64 points respectively.

DC looks to improve on last season’s 5-12-1 record, 2-5 in HCAC play, as coach Alden Lawrence returns for his second season at the helm of the women’s soccer squad. The Yellow Jackets return several starters from a year ago, led by senior forward Michelle Kavanagh (Williamston, Mich. / Williamston) and junior Sarah Plas (Van Wert, OH / Crestview), who were each placed on the HCAC Player to Watch List. Lawrence will also look to freshmen Jessica Conley (Greenwood, Ind. / Center Grove) and Melissa Alston (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Henry Ford) to make an instant impact for Defiance.
