Lady Jackets Top Tri-State 4-2

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College Lady Jackets improved to 3-3 at home, scoring a season-high four goals to come away with a 4-2 victory over Tri-State University on Wednesday, October 10. DC moved to 4-8 overall with the victory.

Trailing 1-0 at the break, Defiance came out firing scoring four goals in the second half to come away with the win. Kaitlin Monberg knotted the game at 1-1 just minutes into the second half when she dribbled through traffic and knocked in a shot from the top of the box. DC senior Michelle Kavanagh would give the Jackets their first lead of the match as her penalty shot found the back corner of the net, to give Defiance a 2-1 advantage.

The Jackets would not stop there as Lauren Ranalli added an insurance goal in the 71st minute off a cross by Hannah Davis, making it a 3-1 game. Cherilyn Borkholder rounded out the scoring for DC with her fourth goal of the season, sneaking a shot between the legs of the Tri-State keeper on an assist by Amanda Spitnale.

The Thunder would go on to score a goal in the waning seconds of the match to make the final score 4-2 in favor of Defiance. Goalie Andrea Galbraith moved to 4-6 on the season with the win, picking up five saves along the way.

DC had a season-highs in shots (29), shots on goal (20), and goals(4) in a game that saw the Jackets control possession for most of the match. Defiance put an amazing 20 shots on goal as nearly 70 percent of its shots were on target. Monberg and Jessica Gamble pressured the Tri-State defense all game as the two led the team with four shots on goal apiece. Borkholder had a team-high seven shots as she, while Ranalli and Kavanagh combined for six shots on goal.

Defiance will return to action on Saturday, October 13, when it hosts Franklin College on Senior Day. The match, which will be played at Defiance High School, is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
