Lady Jacket Tennis wins two HCAC match-ups

ANDERSON, Ind.—The Defiance College women’s tennis team defeated both Transylvania and Anderson in a tri-match in Anderson, Indiana on Saturday.

DC downed Transy 7-2 with three wins in doubles competition, including Emily Meyer and Amanda Auzins 8-3 win at #1 doubles. Meyer got another win at #1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Erin Millikin. Casie Burkhart also won at #5 singles with a 4-6, 6-4 (11-9 super tie break) victory over Carrie Shewmaker.

Against Anderson the Lady Jackets pulled out a 5-4 win with another win by Meyer and Auzins at #1 doubles (8-2) over Rachel Koontz and Rachel Makin. Traci Dye and Vanessa Vandetta won 8-5 at #2 doubles over Laura Jay and Mandy Hackney, while Jessica Gullette and Casie Burkhart took a 8-4 win over Kay Warden and Abby Ervin at #3 doubles.

Meyer took a 5-7, 6-0, 6-0 win over Koontz at #1 singles, while Burkhart downed Emily Thompson 7-5, 6-2 at #6 singles.

Defiance is now 4-7 on the season and end the HCAC regular season with a 3-4 mark. They will host St. Joseph’s on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
