Lady Jacket Tennis Split Season Opener

--FRANKLIN, IND.—The Defiance College women’s tennis team broke even in their first two matches of the season. They lost the season opener 8-1 against Franklin College, but defeated Mount St. Joseph 9-0.

The Lady Jackets' lone win in the first match was a 6-3, 6-1 singles victory by Emily Meyer against Leslie McAleese.

Defiance fared better against Mount Saint Joseph's, taking all five singles and both doubles matches. One doubles match and another single match were won by default.

The Lady Jackets only dropped four sets during their entire play against Mt. St. Joe's, as Emily Meyer, Amber Evans, and Traci Burkhart each won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0. Evans teamed up with Amanda Auzins and Meyer with Vanessa Vendetta for a pair of 8-0 victories.

Defiance now has an overall record and a conference record of 1-1. The Lady Jackets next match is away against Findlay College on Tuesday, September 6 at 4:00 p.m.
