WINONA LAKE. Ind. - The Defiance College Women's Tennis team could not get back on the winning side of the standings as the team fell to Grace College by the score 8-1.
The Yellow Jackets ran into a tough Lancer squad that had DC's number all day. Emily Meyer gained the only win of the day for DC, beating Julia Wegner in #1 singles in straight sets. Outside of Meyer, freshman Natalie Carey had one of Defiance's better showings on the day, but could not pull out the victory, as Carey lost to Kayla Semmerling in #4 singles 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles play, Meyer and Amanda Auzins could not edge out the win in #1 singles, as they lost to Wegner and Kyla Zenan 8-5. Vanessa Vendetta and Laurel Smith dropped their #2 doubles match to Brandy Allen and Anna Metz by the same score.
Defiance (4-9, 2-6 HCAC) will play its final match of the year today at 3:30 p.m. when the team hosts Heidelberg College.
