DC Women's Tennis splits first two matches of the season

CINCINNATI, Ohio—The Defiance College Women’s Tennis team began the season with a doubleheader split against Mount St. Joseph and Franklin College, as the team defeated MSJ 9-0 while losing to Franklin 3-6.

Emily Meyer picked up wins in singles and doubles play against Mount St. Joseph, while Casie Burkhart won her #6 singles match without dropping a single set. Freshmen Laurel Smith and Natalie Carey each won their first collegiate matches in #3 and #4 singles respectively.

Against Franklin, Meyer was involved in two of three of Defiance's match wins, as she partnered with Amanda Auzins to take an 8-6 victory in #1 doubles. In #1 singles, she won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Burkhart and Jessica Gullette gained the third victory for DC with an 8-6 win in #3 doubles.

Defiance (1-1, 1-1 HCAC) hosts the University of Findlay on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 for its home opener.
